Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective character, the main character of the books of the English writer Arthur Conan Doyle. In the story of Sherlock Holmes, as a rule, it comes from the name of his friend and companion - Dr. John Watson, but there are exceptions, for example, in the story "The Lion's Man" Sherlock Holm himself is a story. Sherlock Holmes became known as a doctor and professor at Edinburgh University, Joseph Bell, whose assistant was Arthur Conan Doyle. These features, as well as the similar appearance Conan Doyle also gave his character.
In general, Sherlock Holmes appears in 56 stories and 4 stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. In most cases, the story is based on the name of Holmes - Dr. Watson's companion (in the tradition of Russian-language editions, and hence in Ukrainian-language translations, it is customary to call the companion Holmes Watson).

Conan Doyle himself considered the story of Holmes "easy to read." In addition, he was annoyed by the fact that readers prefer the works of Holmes, while Conan Doyle considered himself, above all, the great author of the historical novel.
